00:00 - the Sun has made its appearance again so 00:01 - I've been able to shake the toque and 00:03 - put my hat back on so it's supposed to 00:06 - get up around 12 degrees today so 00:08 - hopefully that sheds this blanket it's 00:12 - been frustrating this heaven was wet 00:13 - blanket just keep everything soft and 00:15 - wet and soggy over the last few days 00:17 - just taken forever to disappear but the 00:21 - streams all these little tributaries all 00:24 - the little watersheds and the 00:26 - countryside are full we've we're 00:28 - shedding more water right now and we 00:29 - have in the last two Springs it's quite 00:32 - it's good we're getting a little bit of 00:35 - recharge in the groundwater it's good 00:37 - for the pastures good for the dugouts 00:40 - all the aquifers and such we need we 00:43 - need this shot of moisture but it's 00:46 - coming at the wrong time I mean we got 00:47 - to get this crop off so hopefully we get 00:49 - a few nice days here shed this blanket 00:53 - maybe dry the ground up a bit so we can 00:55 - least travel I don't know either that or 00:58 - just get rid of the snow so at least 01:00 - when it freezes we can walk on frost you 01:03 - know how to deal with this relentless 01:05 - mud 01:07 - but we've been able to access the bee 01:09 - yards again we're in the half done so we 01:11 - can travel a little bit further in than 01:13 - we can with the bee trucks and we have 01:16 - the oxalic acid going again so we're 01:19 - gonna make a round with oxalic acid 01:20 - we're putting two to three grounds in 01:22 - for hive it's gonna be Kerry's job for 01:25 - the next few days we found ever since we 01:28 - started using oxalic it just seems to no 01:31 - side extra hammers like hitting those 01:32 - mites again with something completely 01:34 - different to treat the top of our in the 01:36 - spring and we found ever since we've 01:38 - been treating with oxalic vapor late in 01:41 - the fall that it's it's been helping 01:44 - maintain that effectiveness of the OP of 01:46 - our in the spring so I don't sure what's 01:48 - going on but we're just treating this 01:50 - late oxalic as a bit of a mop-up so yeah 01:54 - we're hitting the mites in two different 01:55 - mediums which is which is you know what 01:58 - we're supposed to do that's best 02:00 - management practices so I'll show you 02:01 - what Kerry doing here we're treating 02:04 - with the probe app 110 we like this 02:07 - little device it's a little bit slower 02:08 - but it administers exactly what we want 02:11 - we want two to three grams in per hive 02:14 - and it's ministering it precisely the 02:16 - temperature that we want so it's very 02:18 - controlled and because it's not it takes 02:21 - you know another twenty seconds your 02:22 - soul for hive but I mean this time of 02:25 - year you just keep working right so two 02:28 - or three days we should get through the 02:29 - whole a pre and then I got a start think 02:32 - about getting the winter shed ready and 02:33 - start moving these babies in 02:39 - bees don't like it 02:40 - [Music] 02:51 - [Applause] 02:55 - you can see all the vapor escaping the 02:58 - cracks here 03:07 - we watched we want is the vapor 03:09 - penetrating the cluster as you can see 03:10 - [Music] 03:12 - nicely penetrating we're getting that 03:15 - night's fine dust 03:17 - throughout the entire cluster 03:19 - and that fine dust is covering all the 03:21 - bees and targeting the mites and now 03:24 - that they're gone brood 03:27 - those mites can't get away 03:31 - this is working just beautiful 03:33 - [Applause] 03:35 - so I'm consolidating hives in two dead 03:37 - spots as you can see now series caught 03:39 - up to waiting for me but I'm having a 03:42 - little bit of trouble because these 03:43 - clusters are so big 03:44 - [Applause] 03:47 - and wipe all these boxes off the bottom 03:50 - board 03:51 - the custard down to the bottom part and 03:53 - leave 03:59 - so I got tap the bees on the bar board 04:03 - scary dudes keep going here I'm gonna 04:06 - move those falling into place and she's 04:08 - gonna keep treating 04:09 - [Applause] 04:26 - [Music] 04:46 - [Music] 04:58 - that's working very well 05:08 - these are don't like it 05:14 - [Music] 05:29 - [Music] 05:41 - [Music] 05:52 - penetrating the cluster very nice 05:56 - was it 5 degrees right now 05:58 - [Music] 06:03 - all the bees are back home 06:08 - eyes aren't really clustered up to 06:11 - here's a box with water leak 06:15 - [Music] 06:18 - what yeah I just moved this I've in to a 06:21 - dead spot so it's not sealed acropolis 06:23 - at all 06:23 - [Music] 06:28 - no seals on that one 06:36 - [Music] 06:38 - Hungary Hungary 06:48 - [Music] 06:57 - cooking up 06:59 - set at 2:30 07:02 - sublimating at 07:06 - - 20 and dropping 07:10 - people 07:12 - it starts sublimating as dropping the 07:16 - temperature pretty 07:21 - to preserve to rebound a bit mental 07:23 - treatment done 07:29 - [Music] 07:30 - [Applause] 07:36 - [Applause] 07:40 - there get on this side of the wind 07:42 - [Applause] 07:54 - we've wrapped the ball in a bit of buzz 07:56 - like a buffalo wrap to help maintain the 07:58 - temperature in football so we don't get 08:00 - as much 08:00 - rebound 08:12 - I can't hear a word you're saying 08:20 - [Laughter] 08:25 - [Music] 08:33 - these you don't like 08:34 - [Music] 08:38 - so this is what we're going to be doing 08:40 - for the next few days making around 08:42 - treating without Gaelic getting this job 08:45 - done 08:48 - and getting these hives prepped and 08:51 - ready to bring aside for winter 08:53 - so here we got a group of cattle we 08:55 - found out about three or four miles away 08:57 - from their pasture all our fences down 09:00 - our pastures are pushed down because 09:03 - that heavy wet snow that fell we can't 09:05 - keep these girls in and we haven't been 09:07 - able to make around and all the fence 09:09 - lines so they're finding the holes and 09:11 - they're getting out because they want 09:12 - home they're hungry these guys we found 09:14 - down the road we're just chasing them 09:17 - back to another pasture closer to home 09:21 - it's only half of them the other half is 09:27 - standing in the muskeg within that 09:29 - pasture so we're gonna have to go back 09:31 - and I guess we're just gonna do the same 09:32 - thing we're gonna pull them out and then 09:35 - walk them down the road just like we did 09:37 - these ones it's working quite well just 09:39 - kind of consolidate the cattle in this 09:41 - one pasture just to make it easier to 09:43 - manage so I'm just trying to get out of 09:48 - the way so they don't spook and they 09:51 - make this corner properly they've had a 09:58 - long walk you think it's been about ten 10:00 - miles we just walked him down the road 10:03 - pretty easy going that ditches are full 10:05 - of snow so it kind of keeps them on the 10:07 - road and out of the fields the fields 10:10 - are pretty hard walking anyways once 10:12 - they if they do wander out there they 10:14 - sink up to their knees and they don't 10:15 - last very long there so they'll come 10:17 - back to easy walking not so this is the 10:23 - preferable way to move them home 10:25 - not as much trailer work now as much as 10:29 - long as they stayed at the neighbor's 10:31 - fields that's all so they're gonna make 10:34 - this corner like you're supposed to 10:35 - of course and then we'll lock them in 10:38 - there no go get the second group 10:55 - they come the corner to sex or they're 10:57 - supposed to
